Self referral to support psychological health and wellbeing.
The confidentiality and privacy that Bayside Partners is able to provide is useful to people not wanting others to know about their experiences.
Bayside counsellors provide services to first responders: emergency service people – police, paramedics – front line people doing front line work. These include military personnel including command, defence, intelligence personnel and veterans.
We provide a confidential and private space to speak what no one can hear and also the benefit of privacy and no record being taken of your story.
Bayside counselling offers confidential support and resources with strategies to help manage the issues that front line workers face.
Talking about events allows a space to debrief, tell the story and “move” the trauma around. This reduces the impact and allows for strategies to better manage behaviours and emotions.
Symptoms of battle fatigue, feeling listless, weary, an indifference to life may be an indication that space is needed to talk about events that may be disturbing and impacting on your daily life.
You may be familiar with the term Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). PTSD can occur following a life-threatening event like military combat, natural disasters, terrorist incidents, serious accidents, or violent personal assaults like rape. Many survivors of trauma return to normal given a little time. However, some people have stress reactions that don’t go away on their own, or may even get worse over time. If these are not worked through, PTSD may develop.
People who suffer from PTSD often suffer from nightmares, flashbacks, difficulty sleeping, and feeling emotionally numb. These symptoms can significantly impair a person’s daily life.
Returning to civilian life, be it from a war zone, or daily work in emergency services, can be a challenge. It may be hard to readjust to everyday life, difficult to connect to family and friends and challenging to be in nonthreatening environments.
CBT, EMDR and other cognitive strategies have proven successful treatments.
“Acceptance of what has happened is the first step to overcoming the consequences of any misfortune.” William James
No child or future generation will ever know what this was like. They will never understand.
When it is over we will go quietly among the living and we will not tell them.
We will talk and sleep and go about our business like human beings.
We will seal what we have seen in the silence of our hearts and no words will reach us” Birdsong, Sebastian Faulks
